I used to love this and admit that I still make reference to it when I have a (not so Senior) moment with my memory. I’ll often exclaim - I remembered, I remembered!

Am I imagining things or does that little Black child have huge lips drawn on her face, on purpose?

Hi Satori, no your not imagining things. She did have big lips. This is so funny! I would have never thought this would be on the internet. I’ve been looking for my uncle, who drew these pictures for the skit. And I and my mother were the voices for the skit. While serching I was amazed that people still remember these. LOL!!

I’m not black, but I remember this skit very well. Definitely one of my favorites on Sesame Street. Thanks for bringing back memories.

*clapping hands excitedly* YES!! I thought my sister and I were the only people who remembered this skit!! I often find myself chanting “a loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of butter” randomly.

What I love about this (in addition to the cuteness) is that it is a rare example of teaching an internal skill. “Say things over and over, and remember the context if you forget.” Thank you for posting it!

I remember this skit. Watching it now, I ask myself, ” Why her mama didn’t go to the store her damn self! How old is she, five!”

I will never forget this kid’s grocery list! Oh sure, I forget birthdays, where I left my keys, where I parked but I can’t forget this…it’s ingrained in my subconscious…even though I’m white!
